I liked this book. It is very concise and informative and it delivers good tips for a wanna be or already an entrepreneur. The Kindle version doesn't include The Contents page, a thing that I have also encountered in other Kindle version books and find seriously strange and somewhat annoying. But it's a small nuisance, of course. The book itself is a book I am gonna come back to multiple times in the future. It covers so many topics. It really might serve as good reference for different situations and issues that arise while founding and managing a business.

I wish I had this book about 5 years ago when I started a business. First, Best, or Different should be kept somewhere where it is easily reached because that's exactly what you'll be doing on a regular basis. If you're a small business and don't have a PR strategy, aren't utilizing the Internet, don't have a focused target market, and especially if you're in a niche - this book will literally transform your business as soon as you start reading. The chapters are short and split up by topic and written to be easily read and instructional. It's easily the most satisfying read I've ever done because of how much sense it made for me and my business. I didn't realize how many opportunities I *was not* taking advantage of for years - thing's so simple you'd be amazed - and I was as soon as I started reading!

The great thing about the author, John Bradley Jackson, is that he has a blog he updates regularly ([...]) and he even responded to an email I had with a question. Highly recommended! Don't even think about it, just buy it because you'll wish you had a long time ago!! Don't waste years spinning your wheels like I did. Actually get some traction! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
At the time of this writing, John Bradley Jackson is the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at California State University in Fullerton (CSUF). I have had the pleasure of working with him and his students at the center; a wonderful experience.

Jackson writes in a conversational style that is easy to read and to understand. His grasp of the need for focused marketing along with his up to date knowledge of how technology has changed our ability to market, will be invaluable to both new and experienced marketers. The layout of the book is also simple, comprising some 106 short chapters, some but one page, making it easy to read in "spurts" if you must and also making it easy to get back to information you want to review.

Perhaps the most compelling reason to appreciate this book is Jackson's insistence on marketing with integrity and focusing on the customers. As a long time sales and marketing manager for high technology companies, I can speak firsthand about the need to always have the customer's best interests at heart and to market/sell with integrity. The short term gains by over selling, or misrepresenting products will be greatly outweighed in damage to your personal credibility, company brand and product reputation. Throughout the book, Jackson makes the call for aggressive niche marketing with the utmost attention to integrity.

The reader will pick up many valuable, time saving "tips" for their marketing projects including, but not limited to, learning what viral marketing methods are most effective; what direct mail might still be able to accomplish in lead generation; concepts on website optimization; how to retaining top sales talent; what to do about choosing a PR firm; some new ideas on utilizing social media; and even learn about some ways to use "outdoor" advertising.
First, Best or Different is well worth reading, not only for the target audience of the entrepreneur, but for established marketing personnel as well.
This is review for kindle version. There is NO table of contents ! For a book more than 250 pages, and 100 chapters, man!
Purchased based on other reviews...very disappointed. Ok for beginners, but with 106 topics covered in 229 pages there is little meat on the bone.
This book is spot on for marketing and just in evaluating how a company should approach the market. Written in very easy to understand language. I loved it.
I purchased this book for a course at a State University. The book is written in short story format, which is less intimidating. Each subject is explained in detail with real world examples, that help to solidify the understanding process. I appreciate the tone in which this book is written, as it reminds me of a book I would choose for pleasure reading, while learning something for educational benefit.
This is a very helpful book to the business entrepreneur. The marketing ideas are excellent. The book is designed with very short chapters and the information is easy to understand. This book offers a lot of information. Marketing is so important to any business. I highly recommend this book to any current business owner or anyone getting ready to start a business.
