Feeling a book hangover from “Wintersong” by S. Jae-Jones then pick up “Stolen Songbird.” These books are similar and yet vastly different. The similarities only lay in the groundwork, both of their main characters are kidnapped and trapped underground with creatures from fables.

In Stolen Songbird, Cecile gets kidnapped and sold to the trolls that reside beneath the mountain. The trolls believe she will be their salvation, while she believes they will lead her to her death.

This novel contains a beautiful romance, a haunting tale, and relatable and believable heroine. There are many reasons to fall in love with this story especially since it jumps straight into the action of the tale, allowing the reader to understand and sympathize with the characters at its helm. These characters which you will root and pray for to get their happy ending. However, since this is the first installment in a trilogy there are two more books before we can see this come true.

Any reader looking for a unique tale/setting and a beautiful slow burn romance will enjoy this novel and get drawn into this series. I highly recommend adding it to your TBR pile.

I have seen this title pop up on my possible interest lists for some time but I have always decided against reading the book. Finally I bit the bullet and read it. Truthfully, not sure how I feel about it.

At times I felt it was long winded. I understand world building, story building, character building, etc... but at some point move on. The heroine needs to see what she is fighting for, meaning lower class citizens, great.

This really isn't a love story. It does have a little romance but it is more of a sweeping epic regarding societal classes and their dynamics. Throw in some magic and you have an epic fantasy.

My only real problem was the pace. Snail. Spoiler the ending is a tear jerker.
One of my favorite underrated trilogies. I have not heard much talk about this trilogy at all and I don't know why. The world, the magic system, the characters, the plot, the writing style I mean what is there not to like and it is all about Trolls and Witches! I don't know about you but I haven't read many series about Trolls and Witches!!
Summary Main character Cecile is a poor farm girl living in an outskirts village with aspirations to one day move to the city and be a professional singer. On her way home from a performance she is kidnapped and taken to the Troll Kingdom which is under a mountain by the way! The Troll Kingdom had a bounty placed on her head based off her appearance and ability to sing. The Trolls have been bound to the mountain by a witch's curse for centuries and now after all this time they think Cecile can break their curse thus the bounty on her head. How can she break this curse? By marrying the Troll Prince himself, Tristan.
That is all I am going to say and there is way more to know than that but you will have to read for yourself and find out! The romance in this book is awesome no insta-love which is so hard to find now a days The trolls all have their own unique special abilities and all the main characters are hard not to love! The plot is such a roller coaster so watch out because once you pick this book up you won't be able to put it down!

Cécile de Troyes’ life changes forever when she’s kidnapped and taken underground, to the lost city of Trollus, a magical place where trolls and magic are cursed from ever leaving the city.

From the beginning I was completely enamored by the book’s premise. Anything that has magical places and curses is an instant win with me. Danielle L. Jensen described Trollus in such an amazing way. The place, even though it was a prison to Cécile, was absolutely magnificent. The descriptions were so vivid to me; I felt like I could actually see Trollus before my eyes.

Fountains and statues graced every corner. In place of greenery stood gardens of glassworks sculpted into trees, bushes, and flowers. The delicate displays would not have lasted more than a month exposed to the elements above ground. Then again, hailstorms likely did not trouble Trollus.

The romance is built so adorably! Cécile is headstrong and impulsive, and while that sometimes didn’t work out in her favor, it was notable that she was so active in the storyline. Tristan is our love interest, and he’s incredible. I think he’s one of my favorite characters. He’s snarky and funny, but also cunning and noble. Tristan and Cécile’s personalities are pretty different from each other’s, but there is something that unites them their feelings for each other. They both know that they need to do the best for the other, and with that comes a relationship that’s passionate and loyal, while also filled with strife.

The secondary characters themselves are all so vital to the story. Everyone is fully fleshed out, and you can’t help but love every single one of them. I especially loved Marc, Victor, and Victoria; these characters were so supportive yet really stole the spotlight whenever they appeared.

The villain in the story is seen early on The King of Trollus himself. There’s an underlying uprising brewing, and the King can’t know about it, resulting in lots of sneaking around. The whole storyline is full of mystery and deceit, our characters having always to be careful of whom to trust.

The way the book progresses was great to me, although I know others may not like the slow burn pace. I loved that the author took her time describing everything, slowly introducing us to both allies and enemies, and letting us piece together the clues. If there was one thing that annoyed me, it was that Cécile didn’t push harder for answers. If she asked something, she was given a vague answer or said “don’t worry about it” and she’d just purse her lips and move on. She had to push harder! She had to get those answers! However we get the answers eventually, so I guess there was no harm done.

Overall, Stolen Songbird was the start of an epic series, with a breathtaking setting and refreshing characters. The ending is a cliffhanger that’ll leave you wide-eyed and ready for the next book, so be sure to have it ready!
