Sylvie Davis, a 17 year old a once rising star and youngest principal dancer for the American Ballet, is now a broken ballerina after a career ending leg injury. Convinced she is in the midst of a breakdown, her mom and "step-shrink" take off on their honeymoon and send her away to her stay with her deceased father's cousin, on the family estate in Alabama. Needless to say, the independent, feisty Sylvie and her pampered tiny dog are all but thrilled at the prospect of spending the next month with family she's never met, in the sticks of the Deep South away from her life in Manhattan. Upon arriving at her father's family homestead, she is shocked to find that it is a famous manor called Bluestone Hill. Grudgingly, while attempting to hold on to her last bit of sanity, Sylvie is forced to face the ghost of her ancestral history and the ridged traditions of the south.THE SPLENDOR FALLS is a beautifully written gothic novel that grabs hold and doesn't let go until the last page. I really enjoyed the vivid images painted by Clement-Moore, of the gorgeous landscapes and haunting history of Bluestone Hill Estate. The characters are strong and well developed, each with an air of mystery all their own. Both the protagonist's love interest are appealing and frustrating in their own way. There's no shortage of plot twist, but Clement-More does and excellent job of revealing just enough at just the right times, to keep the reader invested and the story moving at a perfect pace. This stand alone novel, isn't a speedy read.. it took longer to get through then other novels I've read of the same length, mostly because there is just so much to take in (in a good way). THE SPLENDOR FALLS is an enthralling tale that's chock full of history, beauty and plenty of mystery... and I'm happy to report, it is well ended, not leaving the reader wanting.

The Splendor Falls Rosemary ClementMoore Books Reviews
The Splendor Falls is about Sylvie Davis, a broken ballerina. After Sylvie's father died, her mother got remarried to a shrink and he believes she may have had a break down. Sylvie is sent down south to live with her aunt Paula. Sylvie, and her dog Gigi, are used to being pampered and this is surely not the care when living with Paula. Sylvie starts to have visions that are making her doubt her own mental state.
And of course there's the handsome guy who Sylvie is attracted to, Rhys. Rhys and his father have been staying in the Inn, Bluestone, that Paula is trying to open. Rhys and Sylvie are obviously attracted to each other.
While Sylvie is staying with Paula, she discovers the knot garden in the back of the house and feels saddened that it hasn't been kept up with. Since Sylvie's father was a landscape architect, she decides to spend her time in the garden. This is a great story that has a lot of promise. It was worth the money I spent for it. Sylvie starts off spoiled but her character evolves through the book. I would recomend this book to teens and young adult readers who enjoy dark romance.
My overall reaction to this books was just okay. I picked it up with low expectations, so at least I wasn't really disappointed. I wouldn't say that I didn't like the book, but it wasn't one of my favorites.
The quality of the writing was very good. The author includes vivid descriptions, and the readers are really exposed to Sylvie's pain after what she titles "The Accident". As a former dancer, I can relate somewhat to Sylvie's love for dance. This was definitely something I enjoyed about the book.
Sylvie and all of the characters were well developed, if a little clichéd. There wasn't anything terribly original about any of them. Sylvie was pretty much your classic female protagonist, and her love interest fits the mysterious stranger description perfectly. Still, I felt like I really got to know all of the characters, and there were a few surprises behind the main characters' outer appearances.
This book brought back memories of the old Nancy Drew days. Most of the book was about Sylvie sleuthing and uncovering secrets about her ancestors. My biggest complaint about this book and its plot was its pace. Things moved so slowly. I felt like we were getting nowhere. Maybe this is why it took me so long to finish the book.
Having said all of this, I am glad that I took the time to read this book. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good mystery/paranormal read, but I would also warn them not to expect too much from it.
